It\u2019s no surprise, considering they have to have cold weather long enough and consistent enough to keep the ice castles standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Try Extreme Tubing at Soldier Hollow<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps a pleasant sleigh ride pulled along at a leisurely pace by a pair of friendly horses isn\u2019t quite intense enough for your tastes. Don\u2019t worry, we have you covered. If you like your winter activities fast-paced and thrilling, then you\u2019ll want to pay a visit to lovely Soldier Hollow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Soldier Hollow, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to hop on a rented inner tube and slide down a hill as many times as you\u2019d like. Doesn\u2019t sound extreme enough? How about the fact that the \u2018hill\u2019 is actually a 1,200-foot sliding lane that\u2019s packed tightly with snow and lets you hit incredible top speeds on your way down the mountain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soldier Hollow also offers smaller hills for young ones and is available from December 21 to January 2. Two-hour sessions can be purchased for $26 for adults and $24 for children, with kids aged 3-5 receiving a discount at just $13 per session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a Snow Biking Ride in Park City<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Each year, Sundance Film Festival runs from January 18th<\/sup>to 28th<\/sup>. Despite its name, only a few of the activities take place at Robert Redford\u2019s Sundance resort. The biggest premiers, events, and celebrity-spotting opportunities are at nearby Park City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film festival also features a great deal of other activities, like booths, exhibits, and the chance to brush shoulders with the celebrities and actors who flock to the festival every year. If you aren\u2019t able to get tickets to a premier ahead of time, you can always try putting your name on the day-of list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This historic segment of Salt Lake City is home to the Salt Lake Temple, a large religious building constructed decades ago by the pioneers who settled the area. Each year, the city decorates the temple and surrounding area with (literally) millions of lights, creating a dazzling spectacle that people come from around the state to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hungry? Head across the street to City Creek Mall, a recently revamped shopping center that features an artificial creek constructed on the exact path that a real creek once flowed through the burgeoning town. If you love fishing, you don\u2019t have to fret now that the summer season is over and the fish are all seemingly hidden beneath a thick layer of ice. You don\u2019t even have to wade into an icy river. How about sitting atop a frozen lake and fishing through a hole in the ice?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might have seen ice fishing in movies and cartoons and thought, \u201cDo people really do that?\u201d It turns out, they do\u2014and it can be a fun and enjoyable way to catch some fish year-round. Bear Lake is a great spot to do it, as it freezes early in the season and is filled with highly catchable whitefish. Starting in January, those fish come closer to the shore where they make perfect ice fishing targets. Just remember that you\u2019ll need appropriate ice fishing gear to do the job, as well as a valid fishing license, which can be purchased at many local spots throughout Utah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watch NBA Stars Take to the Court<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Not all winter activities are specific to the cold. One of the best parts about the onset of the season is that the NBA season begins, which means that you can catch basketball superstars taking the court at downtown Salt Lake City\u2019s Vivint Arena, home of the Utah Jazz. It\u2019s packed with wildlife including birds, small mammals, antelope, and\u2014believe it or not\u2014 bison. The island has isolated the bison and been turned into a sort of nature preserve. A simple drive across an artificial bridge onto the island can allow you to spot the bison from your car. And the white snow of winter helps their rich brown fur stand out with even more contrast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
