Utah may not immediately come to mind when thinking about the world’s greatest golf courses, but it does have plenty to offer those looking to hit the links. In fact, the golfing community has been steadily growing in Utah for years, and it’s led to the rise of so excellent courses, both private and open to the public. Here’s our list of the top golf courses in Utah to check out— including old favorites and some new discoveries.
Victory Ranch
Designed by Rees Jones and only recently opened, Victory Ranch offers 360-degree views of the beautiful surrounding landscape including Deer Valley Ski Resort, Jordanelle Reservoir, and the Woodland Valley. Featuring memorable holes from the 440-yard first to the 5th hole that requires a tee shot over a canyon to a fairway located on top of a ridge, Victory Ranch has quickly become one of the most exciting and sought-after golf courses in Utah. Plus, it’s just minutes from Park City and Deer Valley.
Valley View
Located in Layton, Utah, Valley View is a beautifully maintained course with 18 holes that offers the quality and experience of a championship course at a price that makes it available for the general public. It draws its name from the dramatic views of the Salt Lake valley that it provides, and you’ll also love the views of the Wasatch Mountain range.
We recommend visiting in the early fall, when the leaves of surrounding trees have just started to change colors. A great range with plenty of variety, there’s plenty to love about Valley View.
Sand Hollow
Located in Hurricane, UT and nestled into the stunning red rocks, golfing at Sand Hollow is an experience unlike any other. It’s one of the most award-winning courses in all of Utah and the nation, and yet it somehow manages to go beyond its hype. It’s affordable and may just be the most visually beautiful course in the state. The back nine is famously its strongest, but they’re all filled with variety, beauty, and enough challenges to keep you engaged. You do not want to miss out on Sand Hollow when visiting Utah.
Glenwild
Located in Park City, UT this course was designed by Tom Fazio and is ranked as the #1 course in Utah by Golf Digest. It is at a great location which is close to everything yet you still get a feeling of isolation.
Bonneville
Right in Salt Lake City is nestled the stunning Bonneville Golf Course, architected by William Bell way back in 1929. Lush green landscapes are framed by towering mountains on nearly every side, and just 5 minutes from Salt Lake City’s downtown, it’s one of the most conveniently located courses in the state.
One of the most innovative parts of the course is the fact that it heavily utilizes the natural contours of the hilly, mountainous landscape, and taking advantage of that landscape will serve you well at one of the top golf courses in Utah.
Mt. Ogden
Ogden, UT is situated about thirty minutes north of Salt Lake City. That’s where you’ll find Mt. Ogden Golf Course, a highly rated course along the East Bench of the Wasatch Mountains. Filled with mature trees, plenty of greenery, and a perfectly manicured landscape that will distract you from the fact that you’re supposed to be playing golf. Everywhere you turn you’ll be taking in magnificent vistas, meanwhile the course will challenge you just the right amount as you make your way through its awe-inspiring 18 holes.
Talisker
Located amongst the beauty of the Park City area, the Talisker Golf Club is an exclusive private club that features world class hole design from the 1st to the 18th. Gorgeous scenery year-round makes this a beloved destination for Utah natives and visitors alike, and it’s all nestled in to the beauty of the striking Wasatch Mountain range. Don’t miss out on Talisker if you’re serious about great golf in a gorgeous setting.
Red Ledges
The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Red Ledges is located in Utah’s beautiful Heber Valley. Here’s what Jack Niklaus himself has to say about the course:
“With the dramatic natural topography and stunning views, the course we designed at Red Ledges is among the finest in the west.”
It’s hard to argue with him. From the juniper forests and red rock cliffs to the high ridges where you’ll be treated to gorgeous views of the Wasatch Mountains, you’ll love the surroundings just as much as the challenging yet satisfying design of the course’s 18 holes.
Moab Golf Course
One of the top golf courses in Utah is spread out amongst the otherworldly red rock vistas of Moab, the geological gem of southern Utah. The area’s most well known for its hiking and the two national parks within 30 minutes of town, but the Moab golf course is beloved for its year-round availability and southwestern atmosphere. Scenic throughout and surrounded by landscapes you won’t find anywhere else, this is a golfing experience you won’t find anywhere else. You don’t want to miss your chance to go for 18 holes at this public course.
Entrada at Snow Canyon
Located in sunny St. George and surrounded by dramatic red rock landscapes, Entrada at Snow Canyon is a private country club and golf resort open to members and guests of the Inn at Entrada. For those looking to get in some strokes in the offseason, Entrada may be your very best bet— it experiences 300 days of sunshine a year, making it the best year-round pick among the top golf courses in Utah. With a killer lineup and plenty of variety in its 18 holes, the most iconic stretch is the Devil’s Triangle of holes 15 through 17, named after the dramatic black lava rocks surrounding the fairways along that stretch. If you want sunshine, a unique landscape, and perfect atmosphere, Entrada at Snow Canyon is for you.
Thanksgiving Point
Located in the city of Lehi just twenty minutes south of Salt Lake City, the Thanksgiving Point Golf Club has topped multiple lists, including Best Public-Access Courses for Utah multiple years in a row.
The most notable thing about this golf club is its length, spanning over 7,500 yards from end to end. You’ll be using your driver plenty as you traverse the massive course, made more interesting by variation, trees, and views of the gorgeous Jordan River.
Soldier Hollow
Midway, UT is a secluded town amongst the Wasatch Range, known for its bustling culture and thriving community as well as its unique architecture. The Soldier Hollow Golf Course fits right in amongst this community, particularly its modern style clubhouse unlike any you’ve ever seen, jutting out from the landscape like a piece of modern art. But the course itself is all classic, with plenty of sand traps, variation, and beautiful views to keep you interested.
The Hideout
Located in beautiful Monticello, Utah, this public golf course has been rated among the best municipal courses in America by Golfweek magazine. It was first opened back in 2002 and has been delighting golfers ever since with its beautiful views, relatively laidback holes, and ease of access. If you just want to get out and get 18 holes in after a week of exploring everything Utah has to offer, then this is one of the top golf courses in Utah for doing exactly that.
The Ledges at St. George
Another St. George golf course sneaks its way into the last spot on our list of the top golf courses of Utah. The Ledges at St. George used to be known as the Valderra Golf Club, but with its name change it hasn’t lost any of its style or quality. This 7,100 yard course features 18 holes designed by Matt Dye, and it’s a relatively young course having been introduced officially in 2006. It’s also home to the Billy Casper Golf Academy.
The 18 holes are split evenly into two distinct halves, the front nine relatively straightforward and flat while the iconic back nine pulls out all the stops. Beautiful views of the red-rock mountains surround you on all sides, which also help block out the wind. We believe that this course is worth visiting for the back nine holes alone.
